The market that entered September worrying about a seasonal curse was approaching the finish with a gain. On September 29, CoinDesk reported bitcoin up about 7% for the month after a roughly 25% rise in August.
That combination mattered to the historical comparison. CoinDesk noted that, since 2013, a positive August had previously been followed by a negative September. Decrypt separately examined the possibility of an unusually strong September and stressed that the record still depended on the close.
On track is not the same as finished
A monthly return is not final while the month is still trading. Nor does breaking a seasonal streak establish a new rule that must work next year. Historical comparisons describe the sample available; they do not explain every buyer and seller behind the current price.
The macro setting was hardly frictionless. CoinDesk pointed to rising bond yields and persistent inflation concerns even as bitcoin held its gains. That made the resilience notable without making it inexplicable or risk-free.
The confirmed story was bitcoin’s substantial month-to-date advance and the pattern it threatened to break. A finished monthly record remained a future result on the article’s date. For traders who had treated the calendar as destiny at the start of September, that was already a useful correction.
