The most revealing number in Strategy’s July 13 update was not another bitcoin purchase. It was a US-dollar reserve of $3 billion.

The Block reported that the company sold approximately $466.7 million of MSTR shares during July 6–12 and directed proceeds toward its cash position. It reported no bitcoin purchases or sales during that particular week, leaving holdings at 843,775 BTC.

That weekly update did not erase earlier sales. Reuters separately examined how Strategy’s bitcoin disposals had exposed pressures across public crypto-treasury companies, reporting roughly $218 million of sales during the year to support dividends and refresh the dollar reserve. CoinDesk also covered the larger cash cushion and the pause in purchases.

Those accounts describe different time windows. Saying the company made no BTC sale last week is compatible with saying it sold bitcoin earlier. Combining the statements into a single breathless headline would hide the financing decisions investors actually need to understand.

A treasury company has obligations that a spot bitcoin position does not: dividend commitments, interest costs and access to capital markets. The confirmed update showed Strategy building liquidity rather than adding coins. Whether that was defensive caution or useful flexibility was an interpretation, not an additional transaction disclosed in the filing.
